Lisa Mason has managed Ashanti Lodge and Travel Centre in Hof Street, Gardens Cape Town since 1994. She is also a founding member of Backpacker Tourism South Africa, is treasurer of the association and chairperson of the Western Cape Region.
While starting Ashanti Lodge Lisa was employed as a executive personal assistant to a senior portfolio manager at Old Mutual, Pinelands. Prior to this she worked for major international investment houses in the City of London where she gained invaluable experience in commercial and financial matters. Whilst living in London, Lisa traveled around the world extensively and therefore gained first hand knowledge of the tourism industry.
Enver Mally, a former teacher, entered the tourism market as a tour guide in 1977. In 1998 he established Grassroute Tours, which has developed into one of the leading cultural tour companies.
In 1999 he became director of Iliswe, a company which supplies hand-held audio guides to Kirstenbosch gardens and other tourist related sites. In 2001 he co-founded Roots of Africa, a tourism related retail company based in the V&A Waterfront.
Enver Mally has a strong sense of social responsibility towards the communities he comes from and operates in. He is also involved in various community upliftment projects and serves as a trustee on a number of them.
After graduating BA (Hons) from Rhodes University in 1984, Di Thomas
worked as an as a stage & screen actress in Johannesburg for 2
years, before leaving in 1986 to travel abroad for the next 6 years.
These travels included cycling for 3 months across the United States
and for 8 months through Europe, with baby in tow.
On her return in 1992, Di and her husband Steven, began Bikeabout
Cycle tours, with 6 bicycles and an old VW microbus. They subsequently
teamed up with an existing small company called Daytrippers, which they
bought and since then the company has steadily grown into one of the
leading alternative and adventure touring companies in the Western
Cape, with over 170 bicycles, 8 vehicles, 8 quad bikes and a range of
custom-built bicycle trailers in their fleet. Through Daytrippers
running of Township tours, Di has been personally involved with a
number of community projects over the years and is very keen to devote
more time and resources to community development.
With a background in IT/technology and a passion for travel, Andre
has worked in the online travel industry in South Africa since 2002. He has developed a number of Africa travel websites including Drive South Africa, OverlandingAfrica.com and the Africa Travel Guide.
Andre first got involved in the trust in 2003 by donating his tine to develop and maintain the trust’s website. He has come onboard as a trustee of the trust in 2006 and looks forward to getting more involved "hands on" in the projects and elevating the trust’s profile by creating a dynamic "blogging platform" for the TCD trust’s website http://tcdtrust.org.za.
