Porridge donated to Rosie’s Soup Kitchen

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Many thanks to Rhino Tripping for the donation of boxes of Porridge to the TCD Trust.

The boxes were taken out to Rosie’s Soup Kitchen where she is currently feeding
180 school children every morning on their way to school. While we were delivering the porridge to Rosie she told me that she is also providing a meal for many people suffering with TB, they stop at her kitchen on their way to the TB clinic as they have to have food in their stomach before their medication can be given to them.

Rosie is also providing a meal to many other people in the community who are poor and unemployed. They can get a good nutritionous meal from her at the cost of 60c
a meal.

Cape Town Signs Responsible Tourism Charter

Monday, October 5th, 2009

The Executive Mayor of Cape Town, along with major tourism associations, has signed the Cape Town Responsible Tourism Charter.

The Charter aims to achieve three sustainable developments objectives including economic growth, enviromental integrity and social justice. It places the onus on those in the tourism industry to achieve these objectives.

The charter establishes the basis for sustainable tourism that will contribute to poverty alleviation and economic empowerment; protect the value of local lifestyles and heritage;and minimise the impact on the enviroment by reducing resource consumption.

Mayor Plato said : “Responsible Tourism makes sound business sense. A significant and growing number of tourists are looking for a “different” travel experience and a higher quality product. They want to get closer to the people in the country they visit and experience its real natural and cultural heritage, but they wish to do so in good conscience and in the knowledge that they are doing so in a responsible way without having any adverse effects on the countries that they visit. Cape Town has recently won major international tourism awards, including Africa’s Leading Destination Award two years in a row, and this can to some extent be attributed to the efforts already made in making Cape Town a leading responsible tourism destination.”
