Dear Friends of Baphumelele,

Baphumelele.

On the same day, I am also pleased to invite you to visit the Baphumelele organisation so that you can see for yourself the progress that has been made, and to meet the children and young adults who benefit so much from your support.

You can find further details of the visit and the gala event in the attached invitation. Please send your RSVP to lauramillion@gmail.com by Monday, 23 April. I look forward to seeing many of you on 10 May for a celebration of Baphumelele.

My grateful thanks to you all as always,

A HUGE THANK YOU!

To a very special Human Being by the name of David Dixon, who recently donated the whopping sum of 10,000 British pounds (R140, 000.00) to the TCD Trust. David was out here as a tourist from the UK to cycle the Garden Route, ending with the Argus Cycle tour. Afterwards he took a trip out to Khayelitsha to see the work that the TCD Trust has done at the Baphumelele Educare Centre, a project to which he generously donated in 2005. This was his feedback:

“Di we had a fantastic time in SA but l have to say the most memorable part of the trip was to see the fantastic work you and your team are doing at the township .It was very moving hence the reason why l wore my sunglasses in doors !!!!”

It is a Universal truth that we get back whatever we give out many times over, so David, we are certain that you have lots of good things coming your way :-)

We couldn’t possibly do what we do without the support of BIG HEARTED people like yourself. You are a great example David. Thank you for your generosity and your humbleness.

Respite Care Centre in Khayalitsha opened amidst great fanfare

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

The much-anticipated Respite Care Centre, for those suffering from HIV and other infectious diseases, was opened by The Irish Ambassador, Mr. Colin Wrafter, on Monday 05 March 2007. There was great excitement all round, with Rosie Mashale and her staff celebrating the realization of their dream with traditional Xhosa singing and dancing and the Woodberry Woodpeckers, the primary donors on this project, responding with Irish dittys of their own. This enthusiastic bunch of Irishmen not only donated a large portion of the funding for this centre, but also spent 3 days hands-on, putting together all the finishing touches to the building and in the process, getting to know the local residents better.

The minister for Finance, Ms Lynn Brown also addressed the gathering, as did the deputy Mayor Ms Chantelle Williams. The Mayor herself, Helen Zille, was not able to make the opening celebrations, but she hosted a private gathering in the mayor’s dining room for the Woodberry Woodpeckers and Trustees of the TCD Trust, where she personally and very eloquently thanked our generous guests for their heartfelt input into our most needy communities.
