SA GOODWILL TRIP

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

A VERY BIG THANK YOU to 3 enterprising and BIG HEARTED businessmen from Ireland – Paul Slevin, Derek Wallace and Don Ennis – who were in South Africa earlier this year and after visiting the Baphumelele Educare Centre and seeing the hard work that Rosie and the TCD Trust have done and all that has been achieved there, decided to make a difference.

They returned home and began fundraising (calling themselves the Woodberry Woodpeckers www.woodberrywoodpeckers.com) and have recently made their first donation of nearly R240,000 which is going towards building the badly needed Respite Care Centre for H.I.V infected children. This is an extremely generous contribution and they have promised that more is on the way…

They will also be returning with a large group in March 2007 to do some hands-on finishing touches to the Respite Centre.

This only goes to show that Township tourism is extremely valuable and has a profound effect on the communities visited !

Donation from Katy Marsland

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Many thanks to 13 year-old Katy Marsland from Cumbria in England. She contributed £150 to the trust in October which she raised by doing a cake stall at her school. What a wonderful contribution. Thanks again.

Extraction fan installed in Rosie’s Soup Kitchen

Monday, December 4th, 2006

Last week an extraction fan was installed in Rosie’s newly renovated soup kitchen in Khayalitsha. Unfortunately the need for this fan was overlooked during the construction phase and it was only when Rosie started cooking in her new kitchen that she realised how bad the condensation from her cooking pots is!!

The trust would like to thank George La Hood from Australia who spent time and energy whilst visiting Cape Town to source, buy and install the fan. Your effort is much appreciated George – thank you!

Rosie is concerned about the cost implications of this fan – her electricity bill will definitely be higher. We have asked Rosie to monitor her bills and the trust will endeavour to see that she is not out of pocket. Any volunteers?

$1000 donation from Richard Duane and Gaby Hoffmann

Friday, December 1st, 2006

A huge thank you to Richard Duane and Gaby Hoffmann from New York who donated $1000 to the trust.

Richard recently told us that they had “successfully wired one thousand dollars to TCD Trust. We are happy to be able to make this donation at this time. Maybe you could use it for the renovation of Rosie’s kitchen, but we will trust your good use of it.”

The good news is that renovations at Rosie’s Soup Kitchen are already complete. The funds will be allocated to the trust’s newest project: a Respite Centre for HIV infected children.

I was very pleased to respond to Richard and Gaby with the following:

Dear Duane & Gaby – Bless you! Many thanks. We will let you know when the money arrives in our account and send you a receipt for your records.

I am happy to tell you that Rosie’s kitchen renovation is complete and we are almost finished with construction of a brand new Respite Care centre for HIV infected children. We are at present updating our website, so all news should be up soon. We will also be generating regular newsletters, so I will put you on the mailing list so that you can have an idea of how your donation is being used.

Happy Holidays :)

We are proud to have these companies as Friends of the Trust
